At the end of this month, it is Mothering Sunday in the United Kingdom. It's often known by it's more modern name Mother's Day. Held on the 4th Sunday of lent, usually in the month of March.
The religious meaning of this event is a day on which people visit the church they were baptised in and honour their mother. People more commonly celebrate it to show their love by sending gifts, spending time with them or even cooking a special meal.
It is one of the few public holidays that is celebrated at different times in the year by different countries. On the 31st March 2019 the UK, Ireland, Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey & Nigeria observe the occasion.
In American history, the modern observance of Mother's Day started in 1908 when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother at St Andrew's Methodist Church in West Virginia. It wasn't until 1911 when the United States legalised Mother's Day as a public holiday in all states; much to Anna Jarvis' determination.
The Slipper Box would like to wish all mothers a very happy Mother's Day and emphasise the holiday should be on sentiment and to show our love to the person that brought us into the world.
A Happy Mother's Day all.
