Most of the UK is experiencing a fantastic May weather wise giving everyone the opportunity to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. There is no finer place in the world than the UK in May, with our richness of history, unbelievable horticultural and fabulous countryside and coast to enjoy and explore.I list below a few of my favourite events starting in the South West:

The Fowey Festival gives you the opportunity of exploring the town and countryside that inspired the novelist Daphne du Maurier. The festival of Words and Music celebrates the author who lived in the town and also wrote about this particularly beautiful part of Cornwall in novels like Jamaica Inn and Rebecca.

Experience the unforgettable Bath Fringe Festival. A fabulous 17 day festival of multiple art forms. Performers from around the world feature in over 200 events. One of my favourites is the Spiegeltent, held on The Rec (The home of Bath Rugby), which presents 10 days of music and comedy.

In the South East of England, Brighton is certainly the place to visit, with four major festivals take over the city for the majority of the month. Brighton Festival sits in the centre of the city’s festival season and showcases exciting new theatre, arts and music projects from the local area.

In the North West of England, you can step back in time at the East Lancashire Steam Railway. Towards the end of May, you can party like it’s 1949 in Rawtenstall, Lancashire where the blitz spirit is still going strong. A natty outfit is almost a prerequisite as you hop aboard one of the railways restored steam trains. Enjoy afternoon tea dances set to 40’s swing, vintage and retro fairs. ENSA entertainers, period vehicle displays and lots more.

So with so many activities taking place in May get yourself outside to enjoy these fabulous events. To find out about similar events that are happening in your area pay a visit to www.visitengland.com
