The Campaign for Wool
This month is we're supporting The Campaign for Wool. From the 5th of October until the 31st of October. Wool Month, previously known as Wool Week, advocates the many benefits and successes of the natural material that is wool
The campaign for wool launched 12 years ago and is supported by His Royal Highness - the Prince of Wales. The first event took place in Londons historic tailoring street Saville Row, which was transformed into a pasture upon which fifty sheep grazed. Over 100 companies participated in the first Wool Week. Many of the worlds leading designers have had their work featured during the wool week. Including; Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood.
In recent years, The Campaign for Wool launched 'Wool School'. A program joining forces with design students at leading universities to help the next generation of designers to understand the benefits of using wool.
Wool has many benefits. Firstly, wool is a natural protein fibre found on the backs of millions of sheep. It is considered one of the most effective forms of all-weather protection. It's biodegradable and naturally decomposes into the soil. It then also releases valuable nutrients back into the earth, which is excellent for the environment. It’s renewable. As long as there is grass to graze, sheep will grow to produce a new woolly fleece. It’s breathable too. As wool fibres are packed tightly together, tiny pockets of air form allow the material to absorb and release moisture. This makes wool extremely breathable and helpful to control perspiration.
We at The Slipper Box have a fabulous range of wool slippers. These include a selection of mens and women's styles. From Jon & Cilla from Shepherd to Sweden. To the fabulous “boiled” wool slippers of Magicfelt and Stegmann. We have a lot of choices when it comes to wool and because The Slipper Box team are so passionate about Campaign for Wool, we have recently applied to become a supporter of The Campaign for Wool in the years to come.
